Sometimes as a botanical artist I get inspired by something I see in the media…That was how I began my endangered species project, getting a grant from the ASBA to paint the rare plants of the Texas Hill Country after reading about and seeing the effects of urban sprawl on central Texas landscapes.

Previously active in the Art League of Baytown, the flood waters of Harvey chased us up to Kyle. I have always loved to draw and am most inspired by being around other artists. I sign my work with my given name Winnifred. Looking forward to making new friends and continuing my journey in art.

I recently discovered encaustic art as medium, which is painting with melted beeswax that has had resin added to make it durable. It can be tinted with pigment, scraped or scribed to provide texture, include embedded objects, and can be enhanced with pastels or oil paint.

"...Experiment and expression with color is akin to a "the fork in the road" - you make a decision on which direction to go and what path to take. In art, these decisions are the creativity that I express. I draw on my imagination before I draw in reality."

I spent years in high-tech marketing, but painting has always been my passion. Busy working, I didn’t paint for 35 years. Now retired, I painted my dogs and many others, then: flowers, buzzards, whatever intrigues me. I majored in art back in the dark ages and constantly seek out new techniques.
